What Is The Difference Between Lithium Battery And Lithium Ion Battery?

Batteries are an incredible resource in modern society. They power everything from mobile phones to wireless automatic vacuum cleaners to various types of cameras. There are many different types of batteries, and they have many different uses, but the ones we hear most are lithium batteries and lithium ion batteries. In the past, you might have to make a decision about these two different battery types, but do you really know what they are?

What is a lithium battery?

Lithium batteries are primary cell batteries, which means they cannot be recharged once they are exhausted. They use metallic lithium as the anode. Lithium batteries have a higher charge density, which means they last longer than other batteries and can store more energy. According to their design, lithium batteries can generate electricity with a voltage of 1.5 to 3.7 volts. The metal used in lithium batteries is very reactive, and pure lithium will immediately react with water and even moisture in the air.

Lithium batteries are used in many electronic devices, from electric toy cars to large cars. What is a lithium ion battery?

How To Maintain Lipo Battery

Lipo Battery suppliers will share this article with you. There are some ways to main lipo battery.

Before charge

Please read the charger instruction manual before charging.

Before each charge, check the battery voltage to ensure that they are at or above the minimum safe starting voltage. If the starting voltage is lower than the recommended level, then the battery has been over-discharged or has experienced a malfunction and should not be charged.

Be sure to check the battery for any damage before charging. Check the battery packaging, wires, and connectors for defects. These defects may cause the battery to short-circuit and eventually cause the battery to malfunction.

Make sure you are using a charging lead that is compatible with the battery connector.

Before connecting, the user should carefully check the polarity of the battery cable and charger lead to avoid short circuits.

Always check whether the charger is in good condition. Inferior chargers are dangerous.

It is entirely your responsibility to ensure that the charger you are using is working properly. Always monitor the charging process to ensure that the battery is properly charged. Failure to do so may cause a fire.

Charge

Only use chargers designed for lithium polymer/Lion batteries. Whether the charger can support different types of batteries. Be sure to choose a lithium polymer (Lipo) mode charger. Otherwise, it may cause a fire, causing personal injury and property damage.

Users should always charge in open areas away from flammable materials, liquids and surfaces.

Do not charge the battery in the model.

Do not charge the battery below freezing point (0°C, 32°F)

Do not charge hot batteries (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit). Do not hold the battery until it has cooled down.

The user should set the charger according to the number and/or voltage of the battery listed on the battery label.

The user should always set the charger to the ampere charge rate listed on the battery label.

The charger should not be set to a battery charging speed greater than 1 C (one (1) ampere hour of battery capacity), unless the C rate or interest rate specified in the product documentation of another manufacturer is preset for a specific battery and charger combination. Once you start charging, do not change the charging standard.

Do not charge the battery beyond the capacity indicated on the battery label.

Never overcharge the maximum rated voltage of the battery (LiPo 4.2V/cell).

When two or more battery packs are used in series, series charging must be selected.

Use suitable and good quality chargers, please do not use cheap and poor quality chargers, use professional lithium polymer chargers to charge. When charging, make sure that the surrounding area is clean and free of debris. Don't charge without monitoring. It is recommended to use a fat bag when charging to ensure charging safety. When the battery is fully charged, please stop charging in time. When the battery is fully charged, do not connect the charger and battery for a long time.

Discharge

Never discharge at a higher amperage rate than stated on the battery label.

The temperature of the battery during discharge cannot exceed 140°F. The battery needs adequate cooling, especially when the discharge reaches or approaches the maximum speed.

When the test battery is under load (connected to a car or a charger with discharge capability), never discharge the battery below the manufacturer's rated voltage. When the discharge voltage of the battery is lower than the minimum allowable voltage, the battery may be damaged, resulting in a decrease in battery performance, and fire may occur during charging.

Under load, do not discharge the battery below 3V.

Do not leave the battery unattended during the discharging process. During the discharge process, the user should constantly monitor the process and react to potential problems that may occur.

In an emergency, immediately stop the process, disconnect the battery, place it in a safe area, and observe for about one hour. This may cause the battery to leak, and the reaction with the air may cause the chemical substance to ignite and cause a fire. The safe area should be located outside any building or vehicle, away from any combustible materials. The battery can still ignite after one hour.

The user needs to check the condition or discharge of the battery before use. If the user finds that the cells are not balanced, or the cells are swollen or tearful, please stop using it.

Lipo battery storage:

It is forbidden to connect the terminal directly to a metal object. This can cause the battery to short-circuit, generate heat and discharge.

Do not store loose batteries together. The two ends of the batteries may touch each other and cause a short circuit.

Do not store the battery in extreme temperatures or under direct sunlight. The battery should be stored under the environmental condition of -10℃~45℃. When the battery is not in use, be sure to disconnect the battery and store the battery in a non-conductive and fireproof container.

Do not change, break down or impact the battery or related parts.
